BEST K-pop Album Covers in 2023

In 2023, the Bias List approach to K-pop albums shifted. Aiming to highlight more listened-to albums rather than conforming to rigid categories, the focus is on works containing a minimum of four full songs. This adjustment acknowledges the diversity in album lengths, ensuring a fairer evaluation of the music landscape this year. So, with the year 2023 coming to an end, let’s find the best K-pop Album Covers in 2023!

10. ZEROBASEONE - Youth in the Shade

ZEROBASEONE made a splash with their debut, delivering a crystal clear sound on a compact yet atmospheric mini album. The opener, "Back To ZEROBASE," stands out as an impressive showcase, setting the tone for what follows. The album maintains its momentum with two fantastic dance tracks, ensuring a brisk and exciting energy that leaves a lasting impression.

9. WOODZ – OO-LI

WOODZ's enlistment hiatus is a loss for fans who will miss his consistent musical style and gritty voice. While this collection might not be his strongest, it still bears his signature touch. The album is enriched with unique idiosyncrasies, making it stand out in its own right, a testament to WOODZ's artistic flair even in a slightly different musical offering.

8. Fromis_9 - Unlock My World

"Unlock My World" is a standout full-length album in 2023 that managed to impress from start to finish. While no single moment steals the spotlight, the album's consistent delivery of stylish and classy pop music creates a cohesive and enjoyable experience. The strength lies in its overall impact, showcasing a well-executed blend of tracks that contribute to the album's success as a cohesive whole.

7. B.I - Die For You

B.I's absence from other countdowns due to the absence of a defined title track doesn't diminish the spotlight on his creative and exciting body of work. This suite of songs is a testament to the vast genre terrain B.I fearlessly covers. Standout tracks like "Die For Love" featuring Jessi, "The Island Misfit of Toys," and "Beautiful Life" featuring Crying Nut add layers of depth to this noteworthy collection.

6. Just B - Nanugi

Just B secures its first spot on the countdown, and it's a well-deserved entry, thanks to substantial input from the members themselves. Their prowess as great writers shines through, contributing to the tonal consistency that makes "Nanugi" a pleasure to experience from start to finish. Standout tracks like "Drama," "Paper Plane," and "Youth" further elevate the album's overall impact.

5. Treasure - Reboot

The title track "Bona Bona" may be a red herring on this album as the rest of the songs embrace a catchy, second-gen sound, skillfully utilizing both vocalists and rappers. "Reboot" impresses with its consistently solid tracks, showcasing a sonic sidestep rather than a complete reinvention. Standout album tracks like "I Want Your Love," "Run," and "G.O.A.T" contribute to the album's overall strength and appeal.

4. TAN - TAN Made

The clever title "TAN Made" appears to be fitting, and if this represents the sound the group aims for, count me in for full support! The album takes listeners on a thrilling ride, transitioning from the brittle funk of "Violet" to the catchy synths of "Tarzan" and the anime rock vibes of "New Days." Each track stands out as a unique and exciting experience, making "TAN Made" a captivating musical journey.

3. The Wind - Beginning: The Wind Page

It's disheartening that this four-track release marks the longest work from a seven-member iteration of this group. Fortunately, the quality is not compromised, as all four songs are fantastic. The galvanizing pace of the opener "Sirius" sets the tone, followed by the emotionally charged "Do It" and "With Us." The group strategically aims for a robust, melodic style within the K-pop sub-genre, contributing to a release that stands out in an industry currently yearning for more of this distinctive sound.

2. The Boyz - Phantasy Pt. 1 - Christmas in August

While the title may be a mouthful and the "Christmas in summer" concept might not completely convince me, I can't deny that this might be The Boyz' best album yet. Summertime concept albums tend to be my weakness, and this one lives up to the expectation. The upbeat dance tracks, infused with funky sounds, touches of synthwave, and hip-hop elements, create a delightful and cohesive listening experience. Standout tracks like "Fire Eyes," "Fantasize," and "Passion Fruit" contribute to the overall brilliance of the album.

1. NINE.i - New Mind

"New Mind" has undoubtedly clinched the title of my favorite K-pop album of the year, earning its spot as my most played. From the bright energy of "New Mind" to the surprisingly subdued opening track, the album is a delightful journey. Tracks like "Power Up" and "Hurt" have earned a permanent place on my playlist, not to mention the album's centerpiece—the favorite title track of the year, "Turn It Off." NINE.i has truly perfected the bright boy group song template with "New Mind," infusing the music with a distinct personality that sets it apart. Standout tracks like "Power Up," "Hurt," and "Like Crazy" only add to the album's brilliance.

Conclusion

In the realm of K-pop album covers, 2023 delivered a visual feast. From vibrant color palettes to artistic compositions, the covers showcased creativity at its finest. Each design captured the essence of the music within, making them not just protective shells but integral parts of the sonic experience. K-pop album covers in 2023 were more than mere visuals; they were gateways into captivating musical worlds.
